Senior member of the (Kingdom) Council of State and former Dutch Ombudsman Mr. Marten Oosting will visit Sint Maarten from 12 until 15 November.
His visit is part of the corporation and exchange program between the Council of State (Raad van State) in The Hague and the Council of Advice (Raad van Advies) of Sint Maarten. This USONA-sponsored program enables both institutions to exchange knowledge and experience as advisors on legislation and administration.
Mr. Marten Oosting and his two accompanying colleagues, Council of State special advisor Mr. Ron van der Veer and deputy director Mr. Arnold Weggeman, will hold a number of master classes with members and staff of the Council of Advice. Mr. Marten Oosting will also have meetings with the Governor of Sint Maarten, the Council of Ministers and Members of Parliament.
Besides talking to government officials Mr. Marten Oosting will also meet with different organizations within the society, such as the board and management of the Sint Maarten Nature Foundation.
On Wednesday night November 14th, the Council of Advice and the University of Sint Maarten will jointly organize the 2nd Herman Tjeenk Willink Lecture at the USM. Mr. Marten Oosting was invited this year to hold this public lecture and will speak about the importance of independent advice on government legislation.
After visiting Sint Maarten, Mr. Marten Oosting will also go to Sint Eustatius for meetings with the island government and to attend the Statia Day celebrations. He will end his visit to the Caribbean with a short visit to Saba where he will meet with island government officials.
